Butler seniors Eduardo Garcia and Frank Patano have been named to the 2008 NSCAA/adidas All-Great Lakes Region men's soccer team, selected by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The two Butler athletes were among eight Horizon League players named to the all-region team.
Garcia, a forward from Lima, Peru, was named second team on the All-Great Lakes Region squad. A first team All-Horizon League pick in 2008, Garcia was Butler's second-leading scorer with 19 points. He led the Horizon League and set a Butler single season record with 13 assists, while added three goals. The talented forward finished his Butler career with 12 goals and 20 assists.
Patano, a forward from Franklin Park, Ill., was chosen to the third team on the All-Great Lakes Region squad for the second consecutive year. He led the Bulldogs in scoring for the third straight year and topped the Horizon League in scoring for the second consecutive year. The first team All-Horizon League performer tallied 12 goals and three assists in 2008 and finished his Butler career with 36 goals and 11 assists.
Also named to the All-Great Lakes Region team from the Horizon League were Jovan Bubonja (UIC), Baggio Husidic (UIC), Robert Younger (UIC), Eric Gehrig (Loyola), Keum Sung Kim (Loyola) and Slavisa Ubiparipovic (Cleveland State. Bubonja and Husidic were tabbed first team, Younger and Gehrig were second team picks and Kim and Ubiparipovic were named to the third team.
