BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Butler tennis was as well represented as it has even been at last weekend's ITA Men's Regional Tennis Championships. Eight players played singles - including three in the main draw - and each of the four doubles teams won a match in the main doubles draw.
The Bulldogs thrived in doubles play, headlin ed by Ben Raynauld and Bryce Warren. Raynauld/Warren received a bye before defeating a team from Xavier in the second round. In the round of 16, Raynauld/Warren faced a duo from Tennessee that included J.P. Smith, one of the best players in the nation. Tennessee won, 8-3, but the Bulldogs gained valuable experience by playing the top players in the nation.
Each of the other three doubles teams - Chris Herron/Zach Ervin, Lenz Theodor/Stephen McLoughlin and Andrew Bayliss/Brandon Bayliss - won a first round match before falling in the second round.
In consolation singles action, McLoughlin and Brandon Bayliss each won a match. McLoughlin won 6-7, 6-4, 7-6 against Derek Carpenter from Ball State. Brandon Bayliss defeated Xavier's Richard Canelas 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.
In the qualifying singles bracket, Lenz Theodor and Zach Ervin each went 2-1 and Chris Herron split two matches.
