COLUMBUS, Ohio - Butler opened the 2010 tennis season against the No. 3 team in the country Wednesday morning, losing at Ohio State 7-0. It was the first of a season-opening stretch against three Big Ten opponents.
Junior Brandon Bayliss faired the best among BU's seven singles players. He took six games before falling short 6-1, 7-5 against OSU's Devin McCarthy at No. 5 singles. Each Bulldog player fell in straight sets, but the Bulldogs won at least one game in every set.
Ohio State swept doubles play. Butler's top two doubles teams (Ben Raynauld/Bryce Warren and Chris Herron/Zach Ervin) each lost 8-5 and No. 3 doubles (Lenz Theodor/Stephen McLaughlin) fell 8-4.
Butler's next match is Saturday, Jan. 23 at Wisconsin.
