DAYTON, Ohio – The doubles point gave Wright State a 1-0 lead and ultimately a 4-3 victory Thursday over the Butler men’s tennis team. The two teams split 3-3 in singles play, giving BU its first Horizon League loss of the season.
With the Raiders winning at No. 2 doubles and the Bulldogs winning 8-4 at No. 3 doubles, the very close match at the top doubles position was the difference. WSU’s Nick Camilleri and Mihkel Kruusmagi edged BU’s combo of Ben Raynauld and Bryce Warren, 9-7, to clinch the doubles point for Wright State.
Raynauld exacted revenge on Camilleri, WSU’s top player, in singles action. Raynauld won in three sets, dominating 6-3, 6-2 in the two final periods.
Warren (No. 3 singles) and Brandon Bayliss (No. 4) also picked wins. Wright State won at Nos. 2, 5 and 6 to clinch the win.
Butler’s next match is at Youngstown State Saturday, April 10 at 2 p.m.
