Bulldogs Edged By Purdue, 4-3
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Butler men's tennis team got victories at Nos. 2, 5 and 6 singles but was edged in the final match of the day in a 4-3 loss at Purdue. BU falls to 0-3 on the season, with all three matches coming against Big Ten opponents.
Trailing 3-2 with two players still on the court, senior Ben Raynauld finished off Purdue's P.J. Rose at No. 2 singles 7-6 (7-4), 6-4. That made the dual score 3-3. Junior Bryce Warren, in a tight three-set match at No. 3 singles, was the last player on the court.
PU's Eric Ramos outlasted Warren 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to pick up the deciding point for the Boilermakers (3-0).
Juniors Brandon Bayliss and Zach Ervin claimed Butler's other singles wins, each in straight sets. Bayliss defeated Thomas Wilson 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 and Ervin outplayed JanFrans Engelbrecht 6-3, 6-1.
Purdue swept doubles play for the match's first point.
Butler hosts Bradley Friday, Feb. 5 at 5 p.m.
