The Butler men’s tennis team split two matches this weekend, falling at Ball State (6-1) before picking up a 5-2 win over Detroit. BU’s win over the Titans gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 start in Horizon League play. Junior Brandon Bayliss went 2-0 at No. 4 singles to highlight the weekend for the Bulldogs.
Butler (5-9) started the weekend with the loss at Ball State, but the match was much closer than the 6-1 score would indicate. Bayliss won 6-4, 6-1 over Andres Monroy for BU’s only win. However, the top two spots were both three-set battles with Ball State earning slight edges.
In its league opener, Butler took the doubles point and four of six singles matches against Detroit. Bayliss again one in straight sets, as did junior Bryce Warren (No. 3) and sophomore Zach Ervin (No. 6). Junior Chris Herron (No. 2) won in three sets, dominating the first and third.
Butler hosts Green Bay Saturday, April 3 in the team’s final home match of the season. Following that, the Bulldogs play six matches all on the road.
