INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler men’s tennis team defeated Green Bay, 4-1, to open Horizon League Championship play Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs advanced to the semifinals to play regular season champion Cleveland State Saturday morning.
The Bulldogs won at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to claim the doubles point and an early lead. BU then dominated the second half of singles play to clinch the victory.
Bryce Warren (No. 3 singles), Brandon Bayliss (No. 4) and Lenz Theodor (No. 6) each won in straight sets to score four points and get the win. In addition, Zach Ervin was up 3-0 in the third set against Henning Jess at No. 5 singles when the fourth and final point was scored.
Green Bay’s Matt Clegg won at No. 2 singles for GB’s lone point.
Butler, the tourney’s No. 4 seed, will play Cleveland State. CSU defeated Butler, 5-2, back on April 10.
