Bulldogs Win League Opener At Detroit


SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Butler men's tennis team opened Horizon League play with a 5-2 win at Detroit. The Bulldogs won the doubles point and four of six in singles action.

Butler got two of three in doubles play for the early 1-0 lead. Chris Herron and Zach Ervin teamed for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles, then seniors Brandon Bayliss and Lenz Theodor posted an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles.

Bayliss, Herron and Ervin each continued a strong day with wins in singles play. Bayliss won at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-3. The senior has now won four of his last five at the top spot. Herron, playing No. 2, won 6-3, 6-4 and Ervin won in three sets at No. 3 singles.

Freshman Brad DiCarlo gave the Bulldogs a lift from the bottom of the lineup, winning in three sets at No. 6 singles. After dropping the first set 6-4, he rolled 6-1 in the second and third sets.

The Bulldogs, who went 3-1 in March, are at Green Bay Saturday, April 2.
