BU Men Clinch 5th Spot In League



INDIANAPOLIS - Led by senior No. 1 singles player Brandon Bayliss, the Butler men's will enter the Horizon League Men's Tennis Championships at the No. 5 seed. The Bulldogs dropped a 6-1 decision to UIC Sunday afternoon, clinching the fifth spot in the standings.

Bayliss finished league play with a 7-0 mark at No. 1 singles, defeating top Flames player Alexander Raa 6-3, 6-4. The Flames claimed the other five singles spots, two of them in close three-set matches.

"It is great to see Bayliss go undefeated at the top spot in Horizon League play," head coach Jason Suscha said. "He has worked really hard to improve his game, and his determination to win is unmatched. I'm very proud of him."

Junior Zach Ervin and senior Ben Shafter teamed for a win at No. 3 doubles, rolling 8-1 over Gautham Oroskar and Rahul Kamath of UIC. The Flames won the other two doubles matches.

Butler has one last tune-up against IUPUI Tuesday afternoon before facing UIC in the first round of the Horizon League Men's Tennis Championships. Butler and UIC will play Thursday, April 21 at 1 p.m.
