INDIANAPOLIS - Senior Brandon Bayliss has been tabbed Horizon League Tennis Player of the Week after his performance in matches against Mercer, Kentucky and Detroit. Bayliss went 2-1 at No. 1 singles and won both of his doubles matches.
Bayliss, a native of Sheboygan, Wis., led the Bulldogs to a 2-1 mark during their Spring Break trip. The senior picked up a thrilling three-set win to clincha 4-3 BU victory at Mercer on March 16. "I think it was my first 4-3 win where it came down to 7-6 in the final set since I've been at Butler," head coach Jason Suscha said. "It was very cool to see him battle and win that. He also led us against Detroit."
After the Bulldogs fell at SEC power Kentucky, Baylisspicked up a solid 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 against Detroit on March 19. He and Theodor won at No. 2 doubles, 8-6, as BU picked up a 5-2 league win on the road.
"Brandon has always been confident in his ability to fight and compete (at No. 1 singles)," Suscha said. "But right now he's playing with as much confidence and as much toughness as anyone I've been around."
Butler's next match is at Green Bay Saturday, April 2.
