MADISON, Wis. - Freshman Billy Weldon won at No. 6 singles to lead the Butler men's tennis in a 6-1 loss at Wisconsin Saturday morning. It was Weldon's first singles win in a dual match at Butler.
Weldon, a state doubles champion in high school, defeated UW's Alexander Teppert 6-3, 4-6, 10-5. Wisconsin won every other singles match in straight sets.
Doubles play was very competitive, with Butler taking Wisconsin into a tie-breaker in both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Zach Ervin and Sam O'Neill were in it to the end, falling 9-8 (7-4) at No.2. Ruben Geeraert and Stephen McLoughlin played at No. 3 doubles and fell in a tough 9-8 (7-5) final.
Butler will play two dual matches at Purdue next weekend, taking on Southern Illinois and Purdue.
