Dawgs Drop Tough Match In Kentucky

RICHMOND, Ky. - Freshmen Billy Weldon and Sam O'Neill won in the bottom half of the lineup but the BU men's tennis team lost 5-2 at Eastern Kentucky. 

Weldon won in straight sets and O'Neill in three sets. Weldon beat EKU's Emilio Piriz 7-5, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. 

O'Neill out-lasted Joao Maio after losing the first set 6-2. After winning 7-6, he won a 10-5 tie-breaker to get the win at No. 6 singles. 

At No. 2 singles, Tommy Marx lost a close three-set battle to Niklas Schroeder. 

Eastern Kentucky won all three doubles matches. O'Neill and senior Zach Ervin combined for Butler's best showing, an 8-6 loss at No. 2 doubles. 

BU goes on a tough road swing next weekend. The Bulldogs will play at Western Michigan Friday, Feb. 17 and then play at Toledo the next day.
