INDIANAPOLIS - The Butler men's tennis team started strong with the double point, but fell quickly in singles play to lose 4-1 to Green Bay in the semifinal of the Horizon League Men's Tennis Championship.
Tommy Marx and Zach Ervin (No. 2) and Stephen McLoughlin and Sam O'Neill (No. 3) won in doubles play to give BU an early lead. Marx and Ervin won 8-6 over Michael Tenzer and Michael Tebon, and McLoughlin and O'Neill gutted out a tie-breaker win over Felix Goepper and Green Bay's top player Paul Swanson.
Green Bay, the tourney's No. 2 seed, captured victories in the first four singles spots. The Phoenix will face Cleveland State in the Horizon League Men's Tennis Championship final.
