NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Butler men's tennis team faced its second nationally-ranked opponent this week, falling at No. 37 Vanderbilt 7-0 on Friday.

Vanderbilt, which featured three nationally-ranked players in its lineup, won all three doubles matches. Butler actually came quite close to winning the doubles point. Sam O'Neill and Brandon Woods led 4-3 at No. 3 doubles before VU's Johnson and Kovrigin rallied to win 8-6. The closest doubles match was at No. 1, where Austin Woldmoe and Billy Weldon lost in a tie-breaker.

Pulok Bhattacharya and Woods saw the most success for BU in singles play. Bhattacharya, playing No. 3 after playing in the second spot the previous three matches, won eight games. Woods lost 6-2, 7-5 to Marc van der Merwe 6-2, 7-5.

The Bulldogs have more than a week before playing again. Eastern Kentucky and Northern Kentucky visit Butler Jan. 26-27.
