MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Butler men’s tennis team wrapped up its fall season over the weekend in Memphis, Tenn. at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Men’s Regional Championships. The Bulldogs finished the three-day tournament with a 4-7 singles record and 1-2 doubles record, including four narrow three-set losses.
Sophomore Tommy Marx knocked off Alexandre Byrm of Ball State in three sets, before losing a tough three-set match to Memphis’ David O’Hare in the second round of singles play. O’Hare, the tournament’s 17 seed, eventually advanced to the round of 16.
Sophomores Pulok Bhattacharya, Billy Weldon and Austin Woldmoe advanced to the round of 16 in the singles consolation bracket for Butler.
Woldmoe and Weldon also teamed up to beat Joao Camara and Max McLean of Murray State 8-6 in doubles. The duo then pushed the ninth-seeded Wright State doubles team of Jami Clark and Hayden Joblin to the brink. Woldmoe and Weldon had multiple match points before losing to Clark and Joblin 9-7.
