INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Butler men's tennis program will compete in the River Forest Collegiate Invitational this weekend. The invite will be held from Sept. 13-14 at the River Forest Tennis Club in River Forest, Ill.
The event will feature Belmont, Butler, Morehead State, Northern Illinois, Saint Louis, UIC, Valparaiso and Youngstown State. Admission is free to see these teams compete on a premiere clay court.
Butler will also be in action next weekend as they are scheduled to compete in the Purdue Invitational. The fall season will come to a close on Oct. 11 after the Bulldogs participate in the ITA Regionals held in Knoxville, Tenn.
Head Coach Parker Ross returns multiple players from last year's team, yet the 2013 roster doesn't have any seniors. Billy Weldon returns for his junior campaign after being named Second Team All-Atlantic 10 as a sophomore. Weldon posted a 21-11 singles record after finishing the year on an 11-3 streak during his last 14 matches.
The duo of Weldon and Austin Woldmoe paced the doubles action for Butler a year ago. The tandem led the team with 15 wins in doubles competition. The young nucleus of players helped Butler improve from a four win season in 2011-12 to a 10-13 record in 2012-13.
