INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler men's tennis team continued to play at a high-level on Saturday by defeating the Bradley Braves by the final score of 7-0. The team is now 4-1 overall, early in the 2014 season.
Butler earned a 7-0 victory for the first time since the 2010 season, when they earned three shutout victories (at Dayton, at Valparaiso, at IUPUI). Two big tiebreaker victories at No. 2 and No. 4 Singles secured the 7-0 win.
The team of Sam O'Neill and Billy Weldon earned a 6-4 win at No. 1 Doubles against Ashton Kalhorn and Hamish Weerasinghe, but the team of Austin and Alex Woldmoe took a 6-2 loss at No. 2 Doubles putting the pressure on the No. 3 Doubles team of Pulok Bhattacharya and Brandon Woods. Bhattacharya and Woods stood up to the challenge by recording a 6-4 win to clinch the doubles point.
The closest matchups during singles competition came at No. 2 and No. 4 Singles. O'Neill defeated Arthur Romanet at No. 2 4-6, 6-5, 6-2 and Woods held off Daniel Tiboldi 5-6, 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 4 spot.
Bhattacharya won his No. 1 Singles match 6-1, 6-4 and Austin Woldmoe came away on top 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 Singles.
Rounding out the action was Tommy Marx and Weldon at No. 5 and No. 6 Singles. Marz earned a 6-3, 6-1 win while Weldon defeated his opponent 6-5, 6-4.
