INDIANAPOLIS – Butler tasted defeat for just the second time this season with a 5-2 setback at the Butler Bubble vs. ASA. The JUCO national runner-ups from last season won a tight contest after losing the doubles point to the Bulldogs early in the day.
Butler grabbed the momentum early with a 6-1 win at No. 1 Doubles behind a solid performance from Sam O'Neill and Billy Weldon. O'Neill however was unable to compete in singles competition due to a shoulder injury.
"I thought that our guys played very good in doubles, but just fell short in singles on a few critical points," Head Coach Parker Ross stated.
Alex Woldmoe was the only player to record a win for Butler in singles competition. He won a three-set thriller 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.
Woldmoe's broth Austin was also involved in a three-set match at the No. 2 spot. He was ultimately defeated 5-6, 6-3, 6-3. Other tight games included Weldon at No. 4 and Marx at No. 5. Weldon took a 6-5, 6-4 loss and Marx was upended 6-4, 6-5.
Rounding out the effort on Saturday afternoon was Bhattacharya who was defeated at No. 1 Singles 6-1, 6-0.
