INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler men's tennis team won a highly competitive match over Toledo on Saturday by the final score of 4-3. The Bulldogs won the doubles point by a slim margin and then dominated the bottom half of the lineup in singles competition to earn their sixth win of the season.
Billy Weldon and Sam O'Neill recorded a victory at No. 1 Doubles with an 8-6 win over Garrett Cona and Stjepan Sisko. Doubles play heated up after Toledo edged Austin Woldmoe and Tommy Marx in No. 3 Doubles 8-7. That same score would decide the doubles point as Brandon Woods and Pulok Bhattacharya came up with a clutch win at No. 2 Doubles over Mark Singnil and Nicky Wong.
Toledo won the top three matches in singles competition, but Butler ran the table at the bottom of the lineup to pick up the 4-3 win. Tommy Marx and Billy Weldon came up with the final two wins of the day with Marx winning 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6 Singles and Weldon won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5.
Brandon Woods was the third Bulldog to earn a W as he put down Ryan Jorgensen 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.
Toledo kept the action close as Mark Singnil edged out Bhattacharya in a three set match 6-3, 3-6, 3-6 and O'Neill was also taken down in a three-set game 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.
Rounding out the order for Butler was Austin Woldmoe who was defeated 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 Singles.
