INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler Bulldog men's tennis team improved to 7-3 overall with a 5-2 win over the IUPUI Jaguars. The 'Dogs won the doubles point and went on to ice the victory with a strong showing from the bottom part of the lineup.
Sam O'Neill and Billy Weldon recorded an 8-4 win over Patrick O'Neill and Alex Toliver at No. 1 Doubles. The point would be decided after Butler picked up another win at No. 3 Doubles with Tommy Marx and Alex Woldmoe defeating Manuel Laboy and Jason Jaruvang 8-4.
IUPUI recorded wins at No. 1 and No. 2 Singles, but the match would go to Butler as they won matches 3-thru-6.
Brandon Woods was the first Bulldog to earn a win as he knocked off Jacob Bradley 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 Singles. The fifth slot featured Marx defeating O'Neil 6-3, 6-4. Alex Woldmoe went three sets vs. his opponent at No. 6 Singles, but he came back for a 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 win. His brother Austin, also won his match recording a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3 Singles.
IUPUI won the first and last match in Singles play with Jaruvang defeating Bhattacharya 4-6, 7-5, 7-6. The first Singles match to end was between Toliver and O'Neill with IUPUI taking a 6-2, 6-3 win.
