INDIANAPOLIS -- The Butler's men's tennis team (8-5) will begin the month of April with back-to-back weekend matchups on the road. The team will travel to Cleveland State (10-6) on Friday, April 4, with matches starting at 7 p.m. On Saturday, April 5, Butler will face Duquesne (12-4) at Cleveland State, beginning at 11 a.m.
Butler and former Horizon League opponent Cleveland State last met during the 2013 season, when the Vikings defeated the Bulldogs 5-2. The Vikings are led by Matt Kuelker (21-8), who has won 11 straight matches alternating between the No. 1, 2, and 3 spots, and Manuel Bellutti (18-9), who is riding a 9-1 streak in his last ten matches in the No. 4 and 5 spots.
The Bulldogs and Duquesne were both members of the Atlantic 10 in 2013, but never met on the schedule. Medhi Mekaoui has led the Dukes this season, posting a 23-6 record from the No. 6 spot. Pete Carpenter (18-7) is riding an 11-match winning streak from the No. 2 for Duquesne.
Butler will need boosts from Pulok Bhattacharya, who has played every match in the No. 1 spot for the Bulldogs, and Brandon Woods, who boasts the team's best record at 8-5 in the No. 2, 3, and 4 spots. Bhattacharya and Woods form Butler's top doubles pairing, posting a 7-1 record together this season. Sam O'Neill and Billy Weldon have also enjoyed a strong season as a doubles pairing, with a 5-3 record in the No. 1 doubles spot.
