CLEVELAND – The men's tennis team had two matches this weekend with an away event at Cleveland State on Friday, followed by a neutral contest vs. Duquesne on Saturday. The Vikings earned a 6-1 win over BU while the Dukes claimed a 5-2 victory.
Austin Woldmoe was the lone winner vs. Cleveland State as he picked up a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles over Ali Bhabib. Sam O'Neill, Brandon Woods and Tommy Marx also performed well for Butler during Friday's match. O'Neill fell 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3, Woods lost 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 at No. 4 and Marx was upended 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 13-11 at No. 5.
Doubles action went to CSU on Friday as the Vikings won 8-6 at No. 1 and 8-4 at No. 2. Saturday's action was the opposite as Butler won the doubles point vs. Duquesne. Marx paired up with O'Neill at No. 2 doubles to defeat Corey Robinson and Max Rubin 8-6. The deciding matchup followed the action on court three as Brandon Woods and Pulok Bhattacharya picked up the first doubles win of the day 8-3.
Austin Woldmoe put the finishing touches on his solid weekend with another win at No. 2 singles. He defeated Pete Carpenter 6-4, 2-6, 10-8. The five other matches were all retired in straight-sets giving Duquesne the victory.
