INDIANAPOLIS -- The Butler men's tennis team (8-7) will play two matches this week, going on the road to face in-state opponent IPFW on Wednesday, April 9, and hosting BIG EAST foe Xavier on Friday, April 11, at the Butler Bubble. Action at IPFW will begin at 3 p.m. and the home match against Xavier will start at 1 p.m.
IPFW (15-6) is led by No. 1 singles player Daniel Kang, who is 18-12 on the year. The Mastodons also receive boosts from Gerard Guell, who is 23-8 this season in the No. 3 and 4 spot, and Karl Wangesten-Oye, who is 18-9 on the year and is riding an 11-game winning streak in the No. 6 spot.
Xavier (20-5) is led by Jimmy Roebker and Mesa Mei, who are 25-10 and 29-9 in the No. 1 and 2 spots, respectively. The Musketeers enter the weekend with a 1-2 record in BIG EAST competition. They most recently defeated Georgetown 5-2, earning their first conference win. BIG EAST setbacks this season for Xavier came against DePaul (5-2) and Marquette (4-3).
The Bulldogs will receive boosts from junior Austin Woldmoe, who is 8-5 in the No. 2 or 3 spots, and the doubles pair of junior Pulok Bhattacharya and sophomore Brandon Woods. The pairing is 8-2 on the year and a perfect 5-0 when playing in the No. 3 doubles spot for the Bulldogs.
