INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler men's tennis team will end the 2014 regular season with a pair of matches at Marquette this weekend. The 'Dogs will play vs. Creighton (10-6) on Saturday, April 19 and end the road trip with a 10 a.m. match at Marquette (13-8) on Sunday April 20.
The Bulldogs will be searching for their first BIG EAST win of the season after taking setbacks at DePaul and most recently vs. Xavier. The team will also be battling to finish the year above .500 as they enter the weekend with a 9-8 overall record.
Pulok Bhattacharya has been the staple at the top of the Butler lineup all year, but the No. 2 spot has moved between Sam O'Neill and Austin Woldmoe. The bottom of the lineup has been strong for Butler this year with Brandon Woods, Tommy Marx and Alex Woldmoe all performing well.
Billy Weldon and O'Neill hold the top doubles record on the team at 5-3. Weldon also has two wins at the No. 1 spot alongside Austin Woldmoe. Bhattacharya and Woods have formed the most successful No. 2 doubles team with a 3-2 record, but a majority of their time was spent at No. 3 where they are 6-1 as a tandem.
The 2014 BIG EAST Men's Tennis Tournament will be the next order of business for the Bulldogs. Action begins on Thursday, April 24 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center located in Flushing Meadow Corona Park in Flushing, New York.
