MILWAUKEE – The Marquette Golden Eagles defeated Butler on Sunday afternoon by the final score of 6-1. With the regular season now in the rear view mirror, the Butler men's tennis team heads into the BIG EAST Tournament with a 10-9 overall record that includes a 1-3 mark against conference foes.
Brandon Woods notched the lone point for Butler against Marquette with a 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 comeback win over Nick Dykema at No. 4 singles. All other matchups were ended in straight-sets.
Marquette won the doubles point with an 8-3 win at No. 2 followed by an 8-6 win at No. 1. The No. 3 doubles match ended as unfinished. O'Neill and Weldon represented BU at No. 1 while the duo of Pulok Bhattacharya and Woods took the loss at No. 2
The Golden Eagles were able to secure the win early in singles competition with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1, a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 2 and the finish at No. 5 would lock in the win as Cameron Tehrani defeated Marx 6-2, 6-2.
