Evanston, Ill. - The Butler men's tennis team put up a strong showing in doubles play at Northwestern, winning at No. 1 and putting up a spirited effort at No. 3, but the Wildcats would hold on for the first point of the match before claiming wins in all six singles bouts for a 7-0 decision on Friday (Jan. 25) night.
Senior Eric Breitenbach and freshman Chris Herron got the Bulldogs their lone match victory of the evening, topping Marc Dwyer and Alex Sanborn in an 8-7 (1) bout. Senior Sam Brown and freshman Brandon Bayliss also put up a solid showing at No. 3, but fell in a close 9-7 contest to Juan Gomez and David Seyferth.
An 8-5 loss at No. 2 sealed the doubles point for NU before the Wildcats scored wins in all six singles bouts. Freshman Bryce Warren picked up an opening set victory over Peter Rispoli before falling in the final two (4-6, 6-1, 10-5).
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday (Jan. 26) when they take on Wisconsin beginning at 4:00 p.m.
