Indianapolis, Ind. - Brandon Bayliss scored a victory at No. 4 singles and teamed up with Ben Raynauld for a win at No. 3 doubles, but the Bulldogs would fall short in the team scoring, as visiting Western Michigan claimed a 6-1 decision over Butler on Friday (Jan. 30) afternoon.
Bayliss and Raynauld scored a convincing win at the third singles spot, topping Brad Noel and Kazuya Komada, 8-3. After Western Michigan picked up an 8-6 win at No. 2, the Butler No. 1 tandem of Chris Herron and Bryce Warren battled the Broncos' Kevin Hayward and Casey Cullen in a closely contested battle before falling just short in a 9-7 match.
Bayliss would have to play comeback at the No. 4 singles position. After dropping the first set 6-4, the Butler sophomore rallied for a 6-4 win in the second set before scoring a 10-4 triumph in the tie-breaking set for the victory.
WMU would come out on top in the remaining singles bouts, however, tallying two-set decisions in the final five matches.
Butler returns to the road on Sunday (Feb. 1) when it heads to West Lafayette, Ind., for a 10:00 a.m. contest against Purdue.
