Indianapolis, Ind. - Bryce Warren rallied for a three-set victory at No. 2 singles, but it would be the only win for the Bulldogs, as visiting Toledo claimed a 6-1 decision over Butler on Sunday (Feb. 22) at the Butler Bubble.
After falling, 6-1, in the opening set against the Rockets' Sven Burus, Warren rallied back for a 6-4 win in the second to force a decisive third set. Both players battled to a 6-6 draw before the Butler sophomore pulled out a 7-1 win in the tiebreaker to secure the 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) decision.
Despite a spirited effort by the middle of the singles order, the Bulldogs would fall short in each of the remaining bouts.
Chris Herron took the opening set of the No. 3 match to a tiebreaker before falling in two sets, while Brandon Bayliss worked a grueling first set win at No. 4 singles before falling in the final two. Zach Ervin also picked up a victory in the opening frame at No. 5 before dropping the second set and the deciding tiebreaker.
Butler returns to action on Sunday (March 1) when it takes on host Indiana beginning at 4:30 p.m.
