Indianapolis, Ind. - The Butler men's tennis team swept through doubles competition and notched five victories in singles play to secure a win in its first Horizon League competition of the season, topping Valparaiso 6-1 at the Butler Bubble on Friday (Feb. 29).
The Bulldogs made quick work of the Crusaders in doubles play, with Eric Breitenbach and Chris Herron scoring an 8-3 win at No. 1 and Bryce Warren and Ben Raynauld cruising to a 8-1 decision at No. 2. Brandon Bayliss and Sam Brown added an 8-4 victory at No. 3.
Butler then rolled to wins in the top five singles bouts. Bayliss put together a dominant showing at No. 5, falling in just two games in claiming a 6-1, 6-1 decision. Herron added a strong 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3, Breitenbach tallied a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 2 and Warren scored a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4.
Raynauld closed out the Bulldogs' scoring with a 7-5, 6-2 win at the top spot.
Butler returns to action on Saturday (March 1) when it hosts Green Bay beginning at 11:00 a.m. The match was originally slated to start at 2:00 p.m.
