Bloomington, Ind. - Chris Herron scored an impressive win at No. 3 singles and Ben Raynauld put up a gutsy showing against a ranked foe at the top singles spot, but the host Hoosiers would take care of business in the team scoring with a 6-1 victory over the Bulldogs on Sunday (March 1) afternoon.
Herron gave Butler its lone point on the day at the third singles spot. After falling in the opening set to Guy Kubi, 6-3, the Greenwood, Ind., native rallied for a spirited 7-6 (8-6) decision in the second set before holding on for a 10-8 win in the tiebreaker for the three-set triumph.
Facing a nationally-ranked foe in Lachlan Ferguson at No. 1 singles, Raynauld scored a notable 6-3 victory in the opening set, but the Hoosier's top player would respond in the second with a 6-3 win of his own before claiming the bout with a 10-3 triumph in the tiebreaker.
The Hoosiers would claim the first point in the bout with three-straight wins in doubles play before tallying victories at the No. 4, 5 and 2 singles positions to secure the team victory.
Butler returns to action on Friday (March 6) when it hosts Eastern Illinois beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Butler Bubble.
