Indianapolis, Ind. - Butler rolled to a sweep in doubles competition before scoring wins in five of six singles bouts en route to a convincing 6-1 decision over visiting Wright State on Thursday (April 9) afternoon at the Butler Bubble.
The win sends the Bulldogs to 8-11 on the year and 3-1 in Horizon League play.
Brandon Bayliss and Lenz Theodor got things started at No. 3 doubles, picking up an 8-3 decision, before Chris Herron and Zach Ervin sealed the first point of the match with an 8-6 triumph at the No. 2 position. Bryce Warren and Stephen McLoughlin completed the sweep at doubles, holding on for a 9-8 (7-2) win at the top spot.
Warren and Bayliss continued the dominance in singles play, as Warren scored a 6-1, 6-3 decision at No. 1 before Bayliss chipped in a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 2. Herron and Ervin had to work through three sets to pick up their wins, as Herron held on for a 6-4, 0-6, 7-5 decision at No. 3, while Ervin rallied back for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4. Theodor capped the scoring at No. 6, sweeping his foe in a 6-0, 6-0 bout.
The Bulldogs hit the road this weekend as they continue Horizon League play at Youngstown State on Saturday (April 11) afternoon beginning at 2:00 p.m. The Butler women's team, originally scheduled to play the Penguins at 5:00 p.m., will now compete simultaneously with the men's squad at 2:00 p.m.
