Cleveland, Ohio - The Bulldogs battled host Cleveland State to a 3-3 tie in the match and a set apiece in the final singles bout of the day, but the host Vikings held on for the decisive third set and final point in claiming a 4-3 decision over Butler on Sunday (April 12) afternoon at Malaga Tennis Center.
Sophomore Bryce Warren tangled with Rob West for the deciding point at No. 2 singles, and the Butler player took an early lead with a 6-2 victory in the opening set before West rallied for wins in the final two for a 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 win.
Butler came up on the short-end in doubles play. Brandon Bayliss and Lenz Theodor scored an 8-5 win at No. 3, but the Vikings picked up decisions in the other two bouts to notch the first point of the match.
