Valparaiso, Ind. - Butler swept its way to the doubles point before picking up three-straight wins in singles play en route to a 5-2 victory over host Valparaiso in the Bulldogs' regular season finale on Wednesday (April 15) afternoon at the Valpo Tennis Complex.
The Bulldogs finish the regular campaign with a 5-2 record in Horizon League play.
Butler ran out to a quick 1-0 lead in the match after claiming all three decisions in doubles play. Lenz Theodor and Stephen McLoughlin struck first at the No. 2 position, notching an 8-2 decision over Kevin DeHerrera and Kyle Stump, before Zach Ervin and Bryce Warren secured the opening point with an 8-4 triumph at the top spot over Alex Lau and Tom Litscher.
Warren continued the run of success in singles play, rolling past Litscher at the second spot, 6-3, 6-0. Herron followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win over DeHerrera at No. 4 before Thedor tallied the decisive point at No. 6 with a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Fortune to put Butler ahead 4-0.
Ben Raynauld closed out the scoring for the Bulldogs with his first singles victory since returning from injury, holding on for a 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 10-8 triumph over Lau at the top position.
The Horizon League Championship begins next Friday (April 24) at the North Central High School tennis courts in Indianapolis.
