Indianapolis, Ind. - In a repeat match-up of last year's third-place bout in the Horizon League Championship, the Butler men's tennis team picked up a pair of wins in doubles play for the first point before scoring three-straight victories in singles competition to tally at 4-0 sweep of Green Bay on Sunday (April 26) at North Central High School.
The No. 2 doubles tandem of Bryce Warren and Ben Raynauld struck first with an 8-2 triumph over Matt Clegg and Matt Keesey, but the Phoenix countered with a win at No. 3 to pull even. Butler's top duo of Lenz Theodor and Stephen McLoughlin came up big in their match, however, holding off Henning Jess and Eric Plaushines, 8-6, to claim the first point of the bout.
The Bulldogs then went right to work in singles play, scoring three quick wins in two sets.
Chris Herron put Butler up 2-0 with a convincing 6-2, 6-0 triumph at the No. 3 spot over Jess. Brandon Bayliss and McLoughlin, meanwhile, provided the deciding points, as Bayliss notched a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 4 and McLoughlin added a 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 6.
Butler finishes the league tournament in third place for the second-straight season.
