Bloomington, Ind. - The Butler men's tennis team wrapped up a busy season-opening weekend at the Hoosier Invitational on Sunday (Sept. 14) afternoon, with sophomore Brandon Bayliss earning a victory in the back draw final of the Singles Hoosier Flight.
Bayliss scored a 7-5, 6-2 decision over Brennan Rooney of Xavier in the back draw finals bout. Sophomore Bryce Warren, who was originally slated to face Bayliss in the match, instead went on to play in place of injured teammate Chris Herron in the back draw semifinals of the IU Flight, where he scored a 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 win over Xavier's Chris Herrlinger.
Junior Ben Raynauld came up short in his bid for a win in the back draw finals of the IU Flight, falling to John Allare of Michigan State 6-0, 6-2. Freshman Stephen McLoughlin also lost in the back draw finals round of the Crimson Flight, dropping a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 bout to the Spartans' Austin Brooks.
In doubles play, the tandem of Raynauld and McLoughlin fell in the back draw finals to the team of Alex Forger and Clark Richardson from Michigan State by a score of 8-4. The team of Bayliss and Warren, however, worked an 8-4 win over Indiana in the second round losers bracket of the main draw.
