Muncie, Ind. - The Butler men's tennis team opened up the 2007 fall season last weekend at the Ball State Invitational from Sept. 14-16. Senior Eric Breitenbach scored a pair of singles wins in the A Flight of the tournament, while senior Sam Brown and newcomer Brandon Bayliss advanced to the finals of the flight B doubles competition.
Breitenbach battled back from down a set in his opening match, topping Chris Thomas of Eastern Illinois in a 3-6, 6-3, 10-4 victory. He then quickly disposed of Chris Klepatz of Cleveland State in straight sets (6-1, 6-0).
Brown and Bayliss scored an 8-6 victory over Eastern Illinois' Jordan Nestrud and Robert Stedman in their opening doubles match before earning a forfeit victory to advance to the semifinals. There, they tallied an 8-6 decision over Nathan Jones and Justin Collins of IPFW before falling in the championship round.
Brown also tallied a victory in flight C singles, scoring a 6-1, 6-1 win over Mickey Mitson of IPFW.
The Bulldogs return to action on Oct. 5 when they open up the Marquette Invitational.
