Low Leads Butler at ITA All-American
Oct. 4, 2004
Sophomore James Low highlighted Butler's effort at the 2004 Icy Hot Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn., over the weekend. Low knocked off Oklahoma's Tommy Garrison in the opening round, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. Low was then knocked from the tournament by UC-Santa Barbara's Nick Brotman, the 17th seed, in another tight three-set match.
Low teamed with junior Andy Bartish in doubles, winning a closely-played 9-7 match against Aaron Phillips and Anton Tsymbalov of Indiana State in the round of 128. Middle Tennessee State's Andreas Silijestrom and Marco Born then ended the duo's run, pulling out a 7-5 tiebreaker decision for a 9-8 (5) decision in the second round.
Parker Ross, Mike Weaver, Scott Newmark, and Adam Bordow rounded out the Butler contingent, each falling in the opening round of the pre-qualifying in both singles and doubles.
Butler returns to action Saturday and Sunday just up I-65 at the Purdue Invitational.
