Muncie, Ind. - Brandon Bayliss and Ben Shafer teamed up to score three victories in doubles play, including a decision in the title bout on Sunday (Oct. 5), en route to the Flight "D" championship at the Ball State Fall Invitational. The Bulldogs picked up seven singles victories and seven doubles wins in the three-day tournament that opened up on Friday (Oct. 3).

Bayliss and Shafer opened up their run with a pair of wins on Saturday (Oct. 4), scoring an 8-1 victory over Vance Davis and Brad Krick before earning an 8-2 decision over teammate David Dollins and Blake Douglas in the semifinals to advance to the final round on Sunday. There, they tallied an 8-5 win over Nick Tolomei and Patrick Troy to earn the top spot.

The tandem of Chris Herron and Bryce Warren also found success in doubles play, earning back-to-back wins in the "A" Flight to advance to the semifinals before falling in a close 8-6 bout.

Newcomer Lenz Theodor put together the Bulldogs' strongest start in singles play with two straight wins in the "C" Flight, topping Detroit's Dean Masuda by a 6-1, 6-0 count before ousting Xavier's Brian Starr by a score of 6-3, 7-5 to move on to the quarterfinals. Theodor started out strong in the match against Steve Herchko of Duquesne, claiming the opening set 6-1, but Herchko would even the bout with a 6-3 win in the second before notching the win in the third.

Warren added a pair of singles wins in the Flight "A" consolation bracket, while Ben Raynauld, David Dolins and Zach Ervin picked up singles victories of their own.
