Indianapolis, Ind. - After going undefeated in singles play, including a match-clinching victory against league foe Green Bay, Butler freshman Brandon Bayliss was named the Horizon League's Men's Tennis Player of the Week. The league office made the announcement on Tuesday (March 4).
Bayliss went 2-0 at No. 5 singles and 1-1 in doubles play in helping the Bulldogs to a pair of Horizon League victories last weekend. He claimed a swift 6-1, 6-1 decision over Valparaiso's Dan Brunette at No. 5 on Friday (Feb. 29) after teaming up with Sam Brown for an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
The following day, he clinched a 4-3 win in favor of Butler with a hard-fought 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 win at No. 5 over John Brough.
He has won five straight singles matches, the longest active streak by a Bulldog.
Bayliss becomes the fourth Bulldog in as many weeks to earn the league's weekly award. Senior Eric Breitenbach (Feb. 13), freshman women's player Natali Jaimes (Feb. 20) and sophomore Ben Raynauld (Feb. 27) have also been honored.
The Butler men's team returns to action on March 21 when it hosts IPFW and IUPUI.
