Indianapolis, Ind. - The 2007 Horizon League Champion Butler men's tennis team begins its trek in the NCAA Championships fairly close to home, as the Bulldogs head north to South Bend to take on top-seeded Notre Dame on May 11 at 11:00 a.m. at the Courtney Tennis Center.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for youth (16 and under), college students, and senior citizens (55 and older). In the case of inclement weather, the match will be played in the Eck Tennis Pavilion.
Butler, in the national tournament for the sixth-straight season, enters post-season play with a 14-9 overall record, including wins in its last eight matches. The Bulldogs finished their Horizon League slate with another perfect 5-0 mark in the regular season before notching two-straight wins in the league tournament.
The Bulldogs are led by senior No. 1 player James Low, who earned the Horizon League's Athlete of the Year recognition after going 13-9 in dual meet singles play. Junior Eric Breitenbach also finished at 13-9 in singles playing mostly at No. 2, while senior Evan West touted a 14-8 mark at No. 3. Freshmen Ben Raynauld and Sandy Berry and senior Scott Newmark round out the Bulldog lineup.
"Since I've been at Butler, we've never had the opportunity to play [Notre Dame]," head coach Jason Suscha said, "so we're really excited to go up against them on a stage like this. Our guys are really looking forward to it.
"Anyone we play [in the NCAA Championship] is going to be really good, but, of all the teams we could have faced, we feel like we can compete with them. It's going to be a real challenge."
