Butler's Evan West Named to District All-Academic First Team
May 26, 2005
Butler men's tennis player Evan West (Greenwood, Ind.) has been named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA District V All-Academic at-large team, chosen by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) and announced today (May 26). The sophomore was among 10 student-athletes selected to the first team, which represents Division I schools from Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ontario and Manitoba. The men's at-large category includes nominees from 12 sports.
West posted a 21-9 record in singles play and a 13-10 mark in doubles during the 2004-05 season, helping the Bulldogs to the Horizon League regular season and tournament championships and an NCAA Tournament appearance. West was undefeated at No. 1 (1-0) and No. 3 (3-0) singles, while notching a 14-5 record at his customary No. 4 position. He was also named the Horizon League "Player of the Week" for the week of Feb. 23.
West, a biology major, joins women's soccer player Marcie Stucky and men's soccer players Andrew Pancio and Patrick Reilly in earning District V All-Academic team honors during the academic year.
CoSIDA members select the All-District Team based on both athletic and academic performance from a list of nominated student-athletes who hold at least sophomore status, a minimum grade point average of 3.2 and are starters or key reserves for their team. The 10 District V honorees will join all-academic picks from seven other districts as nominees for the 2005 CoSIDA Men's At-Large Academic All-America Team, which will be announced in mid-June.
