Butler 69 Loyola 53 : February 19, 2011

INDIANAPOLIS - The 2011 Butler women's basketball seniors went out in style, routing Loyola, 69-53, Saturday afternoon. Senior Brittany Bowen led the Bulldogs with 18 points. Fellow senior Chloe Hamilton added 11 points and eight rebounds.

Much like Thursday night's result vs. UIC, the Bulldogs came out hot and built a big early lead. Butler made three 3-pointers in the first 2:06 of the game to go up 9-0. Less than seven minutes later, Butler led 22-4 and had complete control.

"Today was something our seniors won't forget," head coach Beth Couture said. "Not only did they play well, but they were having fun together. They were really supporting each other."

Butler's 2011 class has now won 80 games, fourth most in Butler women's basketball history.

Senior point guard Azjah Bass played one of her best games, posting a career-high nine assists. She had two-highlight reel passes to go along with eight points and six rebounds. Junior Devin Brierly hit four 3-pointers for 12 points. Loyola's Monica Albano scored a game-high 28 points, 23 coming in the second half when the outcome was already decided.

"Azjah not only played well today, but she has been really good for the last month," Couture said. "Her confidence is soaring. She made some unbelievable passes."

The Bulldogs (17-10, 11-4) led 39-20 at halftime and extended the advantage to 62-38 with 7:40 to play. Couture took her starters out one-by-one starting at the 7-minute mark and every Bulldog played extensive minutes.

Bowen shot 7 for 13 from the floor, made four treys and added four assists. Brierly finished with 4-for-5 shooting from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs buried 11 3-pointers on the day, two days after making 12 treys against UIC.

The Bulldogs, currently second in the Horizon League standings, have three games remaining in the regular season. BU will play at Milwaukee Thursday, Feb. 24 and at #17/14 Green Bay next Saturday.
