Butler women’s basketball coach Beth Couture was named one of 19 coaches and two WBCA administrators across the country to participate in a mock bracket selection exercise July 16-17 at the Westin Indianapolis Hotel.

The exercise will give participants an interactive role in the selection, seeding and bracketing process that the Division I Women’s Basketball Committee goes through each March. Couture and the other attendees will have access to all the tools available to the committee and will follow the exact same process.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to see how the committee works on selecting the tournament,” Couture said. “Hopefully it will help our team and the rest of our league understand non-league games and other factors can help us get great at-large birth consideration.

Both the NCAA Division I men’s and women’s committees began conducting mock selections in 2007 in an attempt to clarify the process that the respective 10-person basketball committees experience when the brackets are constructed. This is the second time mock attendees will consist entirely of coaches and WBCA administrators.

Couture is no stranger to postseason play, having directed the Bulldogs to the WNIT in each of the past two seasons. Butler was 23-10 last year and finished second in the Horizon League.
