INDIANAPOLIS – Fourteen home games and
holiday trips to Notre Dame and South Carolina highlight the
2010-11 Butler women’s basketball schedule. Head coach
Beth Couture and the Bulldogs open with a home
exhibition Sunday, Nov. 7.
“We’re excited about our non-league schedule,” Couture said. “It will prepare for us for another exciting Horizon League season. We’re especially excited to be able to participate in the WBCA Classic at Notre Dame over Thanksgiving.”
Couture added: “It’ll also be nice to go down to Myrtle Beach after our final exams to play in the Beach Ball Classic and also play an SEC opponent in South Carolina. The trip will also be special for me because it’ll be my first trip with Butler back to my home state.”
Butler will open its 18-game Horizon League schedule Sunday, Jan. 2 vs. Valparaiso. The Bulldogs have gone 14-4 in Horizon League play and finished as regular season runner-up in each of the past two seasons.
Including the Nov. 7 exhibition vs. Hillsdale, BU will host 14 games in Hinkle Fieldhouse. Saint Louis, Indiana State, Bowling Green and NCAA tourney participants Green Bay and Cleveland State are among the teams that will come to Indianapolis. Butler went 13-3 at home last season.
“Our home schedule should be exciting for our fans as we not only continue to build rivalries with our league opponents, but also host Saint Louis, Indiana State and a very strong program in Bowling Green,” Couture said.
Butler returns four starters from last year’s team that finished 23-10, finished second in the Horizon League and participated in the WNIT. BU advanced to the past WNIT’s second round in 2009.
