Butler Women's Basketball Adds 4 Standouts

INDIANAPOLIS - The Butler women's basketball team has signed four players to National Letters of Intent on the first day of the early signing period. Katie Brewer, Blaire Langlois, Lexus Murry and Olivia Wrencher will join the Bulldogs in the fall of 2012.

"We are thrilled to sign these four young ladies," head coach Beth Couture said. "We feel like the skills they will bring will compliment the great young group we have now. Each of the four brings something different to the table and we couldn't be happier that they have decided to join our Butler family."

Brewer, a forward from Roncalli High School in Indianapolis, is a two-time all-state selection and a 2011 Indiana North Junior All-Star. She has twice been named All-Marion County and earned honorable mention all-county honors as a freshman in 2009. She has been named to the IBCA Top 100 Showcase twice and played in the Indiana Class Basketball Junior All-Star Game. Brewer has guided the Rebels to three straight sectional titles and a regional championship in 2011.

"Katie can do a lot. She is a forward who can step out and knock down the 3, and yet she can guard the biggest player on the floor," Couture said. "Her ability to get easy buckets in transition will be a great thing for us."

Langlois, a guard from Carmel, Ind., is an Indiana Junior All-Star who led Carmel to a regional championship last season. An IBCA Underclass All-State honoree, Langlois has been named all-county and all-conference. She was also picked to the 2011 Indianapolis Star Super Team and the 2011 Indianapolis All-North Team. A three-year Carmel and conference scholar-athlete, Langlois' AAU team has won two state championships.

"Blaire is a combo guard who can flat out shoot the ball," Couture said. "She has deep range and is very court savvy. She will also help at the point position with her ability to pass the ball."

Murry, from Decatur Central on Indianapolis' southside, is an all-conference and all-county player who averaged 22.2 points and 3.5 steals per game last season. She was an Indiana Junior All-Star finalist and a member of the Indianapolis Star Super Team. As a sophomore in 2010, Murry averaged 10.0 points and was honorable mention all-county. Murry enters the season with 815 career points at Decatur Central.

"Lexus is an extremely quick and athletic point guard who can score, set-up her teammates for shots and also lock down the other team's point guard," Couture said. "With us losing Terra Burns to graduation after this season, bringing in someone like Lexus is huge."

Wrencher, a post player from the Cincinnati area, is enrolled in school at Lakota East High School. She played in five games last season at Lakota West before transferring. She won her school's academic award the past three years, which is given to outstanding student-athletes with a 3.5 GPA or better. A team captain as a junior, Wrencher is also involved with the Peer Mediation Club and African-American Achievement Club.

"Olivia's size will be a huge asset in the paint. Every time I watch her play it seems she is getting better and better," Couture said. "Her touch around the basket coupled with her being left-handed are great assets she will bring."

Couture and the Bulldogs will open their season Saturday, Nov. 12 vs. UNLV at Iowa. The team's home opener is Wednesday, Nov. 30 against Bradley. The Bulldogs were 20-14 last season and advanced to the WNIT.
