INDIANAPOLIS – Thirteen home games and trips to the University of Iowa and the University of Nevada highlight the 2011-12 schedule for Butler women’s basketball. The Bulldogs are aiming for their fourth straight postseason appearance and fifth consecutive 20-win season.
The Bulldogs open the season at a tournament at Iowa Nov. 12-13, taking on UNLV in the season opener and then either Iowa or Harvard. Two weeks later during Thanksgiving, the Dawgs will take on Nevada and either Penn State or Iowa State in Reno.
“I am very excited for this year’s schedule, which is highlighted by our two tournaments,” head coach Beth Couture said. “Opening up at Iowa will give our players a great challenge early and we always look forward to our yearly Thanksgiving trip. It is an extremely competitive schedule and it will prepare us as we continue to strive for a Horizon League championship.”
Butler’s home opener is set for Wednesday, Nov. 30 against Bradley. Ball State, Marian and IUPUI are also on the home non-conference schedule. The Horizon League home opener is Thursday, Jan. 5 against Youngstown State.
Butler could potentially play eight teams that played in the postseason in 2011, including four who played in the 2011 NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs' dates against Sweet 16 team and league opponent Green Bay are Thursday, Jan. 26 at home and at Green Bay Saturday, Feb. 25.
Butler has finished second in the Horizon League and advanced to the WNIT in each of the last three seasons. Couture has mentored the Bulldogs to a 63-35 (.643) record over the last three years.
