Butler Earns Road Win at Creighton

OMAHA, Neb. – The Bulldogs defeated Creighton on Tuesday night by the final score of 67-59, becoming the first BIG EAST team to win at D.J. Sokol Arena this season. Winners of three-straight, Butler will play Creighton again this Sunday in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament.

Daress McClung posted 20 points, seven rebounds and three assists in a 67-59 victory that gives the Bulldogs even more momentum heading into the conference tournament. Four Bulldogs reached a double figure scoring total with Mandy McDivitt scoring 13, Taylor Schippers adding 12, and Liz Stratman posting 11.

McClung and Schippers were clutch down the stretch scoring 11-straight points in crunch time during the regular season finale. Schippers hit a 3-point field goal from the top of the key with 3:56 to play that gave the Bulldogs a boost and the tandem of Schippers and McClung went back and forth  from the free throw line to ice the game.

Tuesday's game featured two ties and three lead changes with Butler taking a commanding first half lead after a 15-0 run. Marissa Janning hit two quick 3-point field goals early for the Bluejays, but the Bulldogs locked down defensively to open up the lead. Creighton was held scoreless from 17:37 to 9:28 in the first half.

The Bluejays quickly climbed back into the game and took slim lead early in the second half. Butler responded and was able to hold onto a single-digit lead for a majority of the half. Ashton Feldhaus and McDivitt each hit a big 3-point field goal in the final 10 minutes to help Butler stay on top.

Janning kept CU alive in the first half scoring 13 of the Bluejays 25 points. She ended the game with 20 points, but was slowed down considerably by the stellar on ball defense played by McDivitt.

Two of tonight's BIG EAST matchups will once again face off in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament. The Bulldogs will face Creighton in the No. 3 vs. No. 6 game while Villanova and Marquette will meet once again as No. 4 and No. 5 seeds.
