The Bulldogs extended their winning streak to three with a 50-43 win at Wright State Saturday. Freshman Ellen Hamilton's 15 points led the Butler attack, as the Bulldogs improve to 8-11 overall and even their league record at 4-4. The Raiders drop to 6-13 and 3-6 in league action. With the win, the Bulldogs take the season series with the Raiders.
Senior Nancy Bowden added 11 points, including a 5-of-5 performance from the free throw line. Bowden also added seven assists and seven steals. Junior Cortney Urquhart came off the bench to score eight points.
The Raiders out-rebounded the Bulldogs, 43-35, and committed one less turnover than Butler (21-20), but could not solve the Bulldogs' zone. The Raiders shot only 30 percent (17-56) for the game and made only seven of their 17 free throws.
Angie Ott led Wright State with 11 points, while Iesha Gray added nine. The Bulldogs held Gray to 3-of-11 shooting after she scored 27 points in the first meeting this season between the two teams.
Butler used a 12-5 run over the last five minutes of the first half to turn a 16-12 deficit into a 26-21 halftime advantage. Hamilton's nine first-half points led the Bulldogs. The Raiders shot 4-of-11 from the free throw line in the first stanza.
The Bulldogs continue their three-game road trip Thursday at Detroit. Butler will be looking to avenge a 66-60 loss suffered at the hands of the Titans Jan. 17 at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The tip is set for 4:30.
