Junior Ellen Hamilton (Greenfield, Ind.) averaged 22.5 points per game last week, leading the Bulldogs to a split of two conference games. For her efforts, the Horizon League has awarded Hamilton its "Player of the Week" distinction, the league office announced Monday (Jan. 16). Hamilton is the third Bulldog to pick up the honor this season, joining Jackie Closser (Dec. 5) and Lade Akande (Dec. 26).
Hamilton posted a pair of 20-point performances coming off the bench last week. Hamilton scored a career-high 24 points in Butler's win at Wright State Saturday with six three-pointers. She added five rebounds in the contest. In Thursday's game against Detroit, Hamilton scored 21 points, highlighted by five treys. On the week, Hamilton shot 64 percent from the field, including 11-of-19 from behind the arc.
The 5-10 guard is third on the Butler roster in scoring at 14.0 ppg. That is also good for seventh in the Horizon League. Hamilton is also second in the conference in both three-point percentage (.482) and three-pointers made (2.73 per game).
The Bulldogs (7-8, 3-2 Horizon League) return to action Wednesday when they host Loyola at 7 p.m. at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Free video of the contest will be available live on both www.butlersports.com and www.horizonleague.com. Butler then heads to UW-Green Bay for a nationally-televised appearance on ESPNU (Sunday, 12 p.m. EST).
