Indianapolis, Ind. - Jackie Closser, the Bulldogs' leading scorer on the floor and an exceptional academic performer in the classroom, has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District V Second Team. The association made the announcement on Thursday (Feb. 8).
Closser has been the Bulldogs' top scoring threat from the perimeter this season, leading the team with 14.2 points per game while chipping in a team-high 4.1 assists per contest. Her 2.6 three-pointers made per game are tied for the Horizon League lead and are tied for the 22nd-highest mark in the NCAA, while her 83.8 percent accuracy from the free-throw line is third in the league and 48th in the nation.
One of the most prolific three-point shooters in school history, Closser holds the school records for single-season three-point totals (84 in 2005-06) and career three-point totals (240 and counting). She is also one of only 18 players in school history with 1,000 career-points and is on pace to become Butler's all-time leader in minutes played.
The elementary education major has been a model student off the court, touting a 3.616 grade point average. She was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District V Team last season and was named the Horizon League's Scholar Athlete of the Week this season.
"This is a great honor for Jackie, and it speaks for all that she has accomplished at Butler," head coach Beth Couture said. "I know she will be a success in everything she does in the future, just as she has done here."
The Bulldogs face Loyola tonight (Feb. 8) beginning at 7:00 p.m. CST at the Joseph J. Gentile Center.
